Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.
— Henry Ford

The Mount Sinai Surgical Simulation Center is a state-of-the-art facility for the field of operating room and surgical simulation, able to create nearly any healthcare scenario. This simulation center facilitates the type of teamwork, interactions, and communications among staff that contributes to improving the level of safety and care that we provide our patients, as well as providing hands-on training with virtual manikin simulators and high-definition laparoscopic stations.

The Surgical Simulation Center transcends basic residency education and training, to encompass not only the Department of Surgery, but multi-disciplinary and multi-specialty educational activities. The center’s goals are to improve education and promote lifelong learning for all staff and faculty, as a haven for learning surgical skills, knowledge, and advanced training.

Faculty members are available during scheduled training sessions to instruct residents on surgical techniques. In addition, junior and senior residents work together in assigned training sessions to simulate surgical collaboration.

Simulation Models

Apollo Adult High Fidelity Mannequin

The CAE Apollo Adult Patient Simulator offers a whole spectrum of powerful features to deliver the ultimate realistic, simulation-based healthcare training. Apollo retains all of the essentials of the perfect patient manikin, with the addition of more powerful performance features and additional configurations to meet both nursing and prehospital learning objectives. Apollo offers ultimate versatility and value in high-fidelity simulation training.

  • Apollo’s advanced airway features, and new CPR metrics, offer training opportunities based on the most current treatment protocols in difficult airway management.

  • Apollo boasts one of the most realistic combinations of high fidelity features and realistic skin in the industry, creating a deeper, more immersive and true-to-life patient encounter experience.

  • Built on a platform that’s been field-tested and proven by more than 1,600 customers around the world in nursing, allied health, and medical education, Apollo is the epitome of durability and reliability in patient simulators.

Vimedix Ultrasound Simulator

CAE Vimedix is a high-fidelity simulator that facilitates the learning process for cardiac, lung, abdominal, and OB-GYN ultrasound - All in one common platform. With its software and manikin-based system and live, remote learning features, CAE Vimedix accelerates the development of essential psychomotor and cognitive skills for ultrasound probe handling, image interpretation, diagnoses and clinical decision-making.

  • The only ultrasound simulator to offer volumetric scanning in real-time with detailed views of the normal heart and advanced pathologies.

  • Through immersive augmented reality training with the Microsoft HoloLens 2, anatomy and structures leap to life to accelerate learning and retention.

  • Toggle between cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal and OB-GYN modalities with ease, for a comprehensive ultrasound learning experience.

  • Invaluable diagnostic and monitoring guidelines on cardiac, pulmonary, and abdominal structures.

CutSuit Surgical Simulator

The patented “Cut Suit” is the most realistic way to simulate the look, feel, and smell effects of severe traumatic events on a live human causality while allowing first responders and physicians to safely perform real procedures - from the point of injury, to treatment en route, and transition of care to surgical intervention.

  • The System can be worn during even physically intensive scenarios at the Point of Injury

  • The system weighs approximately 35lbs

  • Clothing, uniform, body armor, and equipment is usable

  • The system allow for interaction with a live human during the emergency assessment and treatment process

  • The skin and organs are user repairable

  • Interchangeable organs with variable wound patterns or pathology are available

  • User created and customizable wounds are possible

ANGIO Mentor (Double Flex)

The ANGIO Mentor family of endovascular simulators is an excellent example of our commitment to provide flexible and cost-effective solutions, from stationary to ultra-portable. The platforms are updated to reflect the evolution of endovascular techniques and provide cutting edge, robust, and serviceable simulation technology.

  • Packed in a single wheeled case, suitable for check-in, enables carrying the simulator anywhere

  • Quick plug-and-play setup allows time-efficient training that does not require technical expertise

  • Snap-in, replaceable tracking stations facilitate hassle-free system maintenance

  • TEE-ready to enable practicing live TEE during endovascular interventions that require TEE guidance such as Transseptal Puncture and LAA closure

  • Available in dual access configuration for relevant procedures such as EVAR and TEVAR.
